RECALL: Harbor Freight Jack Stands

Don’t Suffer from a Company’s Negligence

If you bought a jack stand from a hardware company called Harbor Freight, you may be entitled to compensation if you sustained an injury while using the product. The company issued a recall with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) due to the risk of certain jack stands collapsing while in use. In case you’re not aware of what a jack stand is, it’s a device used to hold up a car while you work on or under it. Considering the risks associated with working on, and especially under, a vehicle weighing tons of pounds, it is essential that these jack stands be built to support the heavy weight.

However, that hasn’t been the case with certain Harbor Freight jack stands.

Understanding Harbor Freight’s Jack Stand Recall

The weight of the vehicle may seriously injure or kill a person if the jack stand isn’t manufactured properly. In this matter, if you bought a 6-ton jack stand manufactured between 2013 and 2019 and/or a 3-ton jack stand manufactured between 2012 and 2020 and suffered an injury as a result of its defects, contact us immediately so we can file a personal injury claim on your behalf. If you purchased one of these products but have not yet sustained an injury, we urge you to stop using the product immediately to help avoid the potential of future harm.

What is the reason behind these recalls?

Harbor Freight attributed the products’ defects to older tooling at the factory that produced the (recalled) jack stands. When the company filed its first recall in March, it explained that certain 6-ton jack stands were at risk of disengaging their support pawl under shifting weight, causing them to suddenly collapse. As a result, the vehicle could fall on the user and cause serious damage or death. In May, a second recall was issued for certain 3-ton jack stands.

3-Ton Jack Stands

Nearly 1.3 million 3-ton jack stands may be affected, meaning 1.3 million customers are at risk. To find out if you’re at risk, look at the item number on the product: If you bought item numbers 56371 or 61196, stop using the product immediately. For the safety recall report, click here.
